On top of Serra de S. Mamede

Located at 0,5 miles (800 meters) above sea level, the town of Marvão rises on top of Serra de S. Mamede, watchful of its surroundings. Fortified since its early days, it has been a place of refuge for the population, including its founder Ibn Marúan, the same man that founded the city of Badajoz in 875.
