Serra de S. Mamede is a Natural Park that expands itself over an area of 55 thousand ha- It has a great floristic diversity – with around 800 species, and having also a large spectre of mediterranean species. On the fauna is where the greatest richness of amphibians and reptiles in Portugal can be found. Its biodiversity makes Serra de S. Mamede the chosen place for birds of prey to nidificate, as well as the existence of large bat colonies.
